We enjoy spending time outdoors exploring, hiking, and travelling.Christians have always wanted to know what it means for a life to be touched by grace. We have a daughter, Grace, and a dog, Cinnamon. I am married to Iulia, who serves as a doctor in the NHS. Nockles, Bulletin of the John Rylands Library 97/1 (Spring 2021), co-edited with William Gibson George Whitefield: Life, Context, and Legacy, co-edited with David Ceri Jones (Oxford University Press, 2016) and John Wesley in America: Restoring Primitive Christianity (Oxford University Press, 2014). My major recent publications include Holiness and Pentecostal Movements: Intertwined Pasts, Presents, and Futures (Penn State University Press, 2022), co-edited with David Bundy and David Sang-Ehil Han Religion in Britain, 1660-1900: Essays in Honour of Peter B. Currently I’m supervising several PhD students and I have supervised ten PhD students to completion. Enquiries from students who want to study or research in these areas are welcome. I teach and supervise research in the areas of church history and historical theology, including Methodist, Wesleyan, Evangelical, Holiness, and Pentecostal studies.

Currently I serve as Vice-President of Methodist-related Theological Schools in Europe, on the editorial board of Methodist Review, on the committee of the Wesleyan Studies Group of the American Academy of Religion, and on the Methodist-Roman Catholic International Commission.

I am an Honorary Research Fellow of The University of Manchester and Australasian Centre for Wesleyan Research, and a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. I am co-editor of the journal of Wesley and Methodist Studies, and book series Studies in the Holiness and Pentecostal Movements. In relation to my role as Director of the MWRC, editing is one of my regular academic activities.

Originally from Kansas, I left sunny California twenty years ago for doctoral studies in Manchester, leading to a lasting connection with the Manchester Wesley Research Centre (MWRC) and NTC.
